Digital violence

Digital violence encompasses various forms of violence, harassment, surveillance, control and intimidation that take place through the use of digital technologies.

It can be perpetrated via various digital channels and devices. These include, for example, smartphones and computers, social media, messaging services, emails and online platforms. Cloud services, connected devices such as smartwatches and trackers, and applications based on artificial intelligence can also be used to perpetrate digital violence.

The abuse can be perpetrated by both strangers and people known to the victim. Digital violence is also particularly common in the context of current or former relationships.

In most cases, victims of digital violence are also subjected to various other criminal offences, such as physical and sexual violence.

If you feel threatened or find yourself in an immediate situation of danger, contact the police on the emergency number 117.
